Welcome to Beqa Island, a Fijiian island paradise right on our doorstep. Just a quick three to four hour flight from Australia and New Zealand, the island is a getaway like no other; forget the crowded beaches of Thailand and Bali and instead embrace the gin-clear waters, tropical rainforests, kaleidoscopic fish, coral reefs and romantic seclusion of this undiscovered gem.

All-Inclusive Paradise

We decided to take a trip to Beqa Island to experience the best resort the island has to offer – Lalati Resort & Spa (it’s rated #1 on TripAdvisor with a 2014 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence). The resort is kids-free, which means it’s the perfect opportunity for a romantic getaway for couples. It’s also all-inclusive, which means all we had to do was pack our bags, hop on a plane and lie back and relax!

From the moment we arrived at the airport, we were blown away by the fantastic staff and how easy everything was! We felt like VIPs with an airport meet and greet, before being whisked away to Pacific Harbour in a private vehicle and travelling by boat to the resort (a quick and very scenic 30 minutes). The resort is truly spectacular, hidden amongst lush tropical rainforests just steps from the beach. We were even greeted by singing on the dock and given a beautiful floral leis and a refreshing coconut drink upon arrival. We truly felt like we’d entered into paradise!

Room with a View

Accommodation Honeymoon suite exterior (OV)

We stayed in the incredibly romantic Honeymoon Villa (don’t worry, you don’t actually have to be married to enjoy the Honeymoon Villa)! Villas are so spacious and are beautifully decorated with Fijiian art-work to make you feel like you’re truly a world away from everyday life.

Accommodation Villa lanai

The Honeymoon Villas feature private gazebos with hammocks and spectacular views of the lagoon. We loved sipping cocktails on the deck during the day, and at night it is truly breathtaking when the stars come out – the sky is so clear without the smog of the city, it is truly remarkable!

Step into the villa and discover laid-back luxury – we were blown away by the hardwood floors with tropical plants dotting the interior space and a huge four-posted king size bed with luxury linens (bigger than the one we have at home!). There’s plenty of space to relax and unwind with all the modern conveniences needed for a perfect holiday including a television and DVD player for a quiet night in, air-conditioning and ceiling fans and fluffy cotton terry oversized bath towels.

And just when we thought the villas couldn’t be more romantic, we discovered the private courtyard out the back, complete with an outdoor stone shower and tropical plants (plus a giant day four posted day bed!).

Take a Dip

With the warm tropical weather in Fiji, a leisurely dip is always inviting! Thankfully, Lalati Resort & Spa has multiple options for all kinds of travellers (or all kinds of moods – lazy, relaxed or active!)

The resort pool is stunning with magnificent views of the lagoon (you almost feel like you’re swimming out into the ocean). The swimming pool is an ideal place for an afternoon splash, a poolside cocktail, or a relaxing bask in the sun.

Activities - diving

Beqa Lagoon is also world famous for its snorkelling and diving sites. We loved the free guided reef snorkelling offered by the resort – the coral reef is spectacular and you don’t have to be an expert to enjoy it!

For the more adventurous, the resort also offers guided diving tours. Explore wrecks, remote island reefs, swim with sharks and discover a whole new world under the surface! (Costs apply.)

5 Cuisine - island picnic

Food, Glorious Food

One of the best parts of our holiday was not having to worry about finding good food (or cooking for ourselves)! All your meals are included in the deal, and the food at Lalati Resort & Spa is truly delicious – sometimes ‘all-inclusive’ means stale cereal and boring buffets, but not at Lalati Resort!

8 Resort - Restaurant

Meals are served in a chiefly-style open air bure, with a relaxed Fijiian-vibe and fantsatic atmosphere. We enjoyed meeting fellow-travellers and hearing about all their amazing experiences. And all the food was fantastic, made using only the freshest ingredients available. Newly picked artisan vegetables, seasonal tropical fruits, imported meats and freshly caught seafood feature on an ever changing menu.

Cuisine - barbecue

Dinners are varied with poolside BBQs, home-baked goodies, gourmet desserts, international delights and even a traditional Fijian Lovo night!

Dining - pier

And if you’re feeling like some alone time, you can even opt for a private, candlelit dinner for two. It was unbelievably romantic, with sweeping views of the bay, sea and outlying islands!

Holiday Spirit

Nothing says tropical paradise like sitting by the beach with a frosty, exotic drink! And Lalati were happy to oblige our every whim. Hanging at the bar with our new-found friends, sipping cocktails and enjoying the sunset was one of our favourite parts of the trip. (Especially during happy hour, which made us even happier).

TripAdvisor Reviews

“Paradise”

Five out of five stars

“Just returned from a week in paradise. Lalati is truly a picture postcard destination. Beqa Island and Lalati Resort it is simply breathtaking. Location: Spectacular. The Resort: Beautiful. True island escape. Private. Secluded.  Our Room: Traditional Beachfront Villa – very nice. Verandah overlooking the ocean – very very nice! The Resort Staff: Absolutely lovely. Always smiling and laughing. Excellent service. The Food: All meals included in our package. The food was great, fresh and varied. The only problem… weighing 2kgs heavier on return than when I arrived! Our experience: Very relaxing. Tried some new activities: snorkelling/kayaking. The resort is situated on an estuary so the water was always calm, making snorkelling and kayaking for first-timers easy. Serious diving is available for the pros. Overall the Fiji people are lovely and the country is stunning. We had a wonderful holiday and will definitely return to Fiji for another short holiday break.”

“25th Anniversary Bliss”

Five out of five stars

“A week ago we sadly left this beautiful & intimate resort. Hubby & I decided that some time away somewhere without children was what we needed to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Picked up a great package through Luxury Escapes & feel we got great value for money. Booking was seamless & all communications were quick, trouble free & friendly regarding our transfer arrangements & inclusions. As we approached our destination we could see & hear the staff gathered on the wharf to welcome us with their loving & friendly faces & their singing is something I never tire of. Welcome floral leis, coconut drinks & foot massages were lovely. We found the food to be filling & variety was good. Thursday nights are Fijian night which is by far the best night with food being cooked traditionally by Fijian lovo which keeps it moist & adds amazing smokiness to the food. YUMMO, just Devine :-) We stayed in a Honeymoon Villa which all sit waterfront & are beautifully laid out. This was our 5th time to Fiji, 1st time to Lalati but will not be our last.”

“Real Fiji”

Five out of five stars

“Talk about being taken care of from start to finish! In just the warmest way. Lalati Resort draws on the local villages for their employees and the loving hearts and broad warm smiles of those villagers … real Fijians … will stay with us always. Every activity was ours to enjoy with all the heavy lifting done by these gorgeous locals: snorkel, scuba dive, kayak, massage. Food brilliant, our room all we could want and more … the bed was HUGE! …company and new friendships such fun, visits to the villages educational. We were looking forward to our holiday but this was so much more than we anticipated.”
