Le Meridien Khao Lak Beach & Spa Resort

Welcome to the Cudo Travel Blog, where you can read first hand reports from our expert team of travel consultants, jam-packed with photos and real accounts. The blog has been prepared by travel experts who have visited the hotel.

To bring our readers this week’s holiday destination, we decided to dabble in a bit of time travel (you know, the totally realistic kind). We packed our bags for Khao Lak, Thailand and found ourselves in the the Patong of decades ago – characterized by stunning tranquility, leafy green foliage, a lushly tropical feel and the clear warm waters of the Andaman Sea. Heading to a sandy strip of beach just north of Phuket, we prepared ourselves for an exciting eight night getaway at the Le Meridien Khao Lak Beach & Spa Resort.

What differentiates Khao Lak from neighboring tourist destinations like Phuket, are its upscale, secluded coastal resorts and uncrowded beaches. The region is incredibly down to earth both figuratively and literally with buildings unable to exceed the height coconut palm tree. It’s the ideal getaway for couples looking for a relaxing vacation and also fantastic for families, especially with younger children.

The Resort

Le Meridien Khao Lak Beach & Spa Resort is nestled in a secluded bit of paradise sandwiched between lush tropical forest’s and 13 kilometers of pristine beach. We traveled the 70 minutes from Phuket International Airport in the comfort of our pre-arranged airport transfers and arrived in five star style, fully prepared for an indulgent holiday.

 The Rooms

Check-in was a quick and professional experience, with extremely polite and helpful staff the whole way through.

In the name of unbiased research, we arranged to spend our nights in a Deluxe Pool View Room, Lagoon Villa and Pool Villa (with a couple of midnight snoozes on the beach for good measure) over our eight night stay.

The soothing earth tones and the rich brown furniture combined effortlessly with the elegant silk fabrics and plush bed linens. The calming hues and varying textures enriched the brilliant view- be it of the sparkling pool, serene lagoon or the secluded intimacy of your very own private garden pool.

Poolside Bliss

You’re not officially on holiday until you’re lying horizontally on a sun bed, with some form of tropical drink or other in hand- with three fresh-water pools, you won’t have to waste any time getting into ‘vacation mode’.

The extremely large lagoon-style pool with commanding views of the Andaman Sea and it wonderful poolside bar make for the perfect area to enjoy the sun, water and a few nibblies. Guests can also enjoy a pleasant family and kid’s pool surrounded by lush landscaped gardens, as well as the quiet of the adults only pool and spa.

Switch off your brain and let your mind relax and if checking work email crosses your mind as your lounge about in all your glory, feel free to give your phone a few swimming lessons.

Elegant Dining

Pull up a chair at any one of the six onsite restaurants and you not be disappointing- prepare for the flavour explosion of expertly prepared cuisine and incredibly fresh ingredients.

Everyone loves variety and unless you are planning to spend the next five years consecutively at Le Meridien, we can confidently report that the expansive range of dining options will keep you engaged and intrigued all holiday long.

The Baan Thai restaurant will deliver a healthy dose of authentic Thai cuisine that will inspire both your eyes and your palate . In addition, the lushly green surrounds and serene lagoon work to create an incredibly dreamy setting whereby one can enjoy top notch Thai dishes with a serve of peace and tranquility.

Guests can also enjoy authentic Indian specialties at Kuk Kak Bar and Grill, Korean BBQ and Japanese Sushi at the Twin Lake Pavilion, a wood-fired pizza at the Italian-themed Favola, sample the local fishermen’s catch of the day at the Bamboo Bar & Seafood Grill or kick back with a casual snack at Cafe Lilawadee.

 Finding your Zen

Surrounded by a warm sea breeze, rustling palm trees and tropical cocktails, you probably won’t have too much trouble relaxing but let’s just pretend for a moment (and I truly do mean pretend) that you are still suffering from the lingering side effects of your weekday 6.00am alarm – head to the resorts incredible Le Spa for a multi-sensory experience and therapeutic rejuvenation.

Guests travelling to Le Meridien will need to expand their definition of a spa treatment room- imagine yourself in an expansive 115 square meter room that rivals the size of many city apartments.

Excluding the therapists, the space is completely yours to relax in, unless you are feeling extra generous and want to invite a partner or friend as there are two treatments beds in the center of the room – additionally there is a spa, half-bath and private rain forest shower.

The soothing environment offers a multitude of spa treatments with a combination of ancient Eastern therapies and Western techniques enhanced by natural ingredients native to the region.

When you’ve had a taste of the spa, with your mind, body and soul fully relaxed, grab a sun bed on the beach and continue in the theme of relaxation as you take in the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea.

“Lovely location if you want to unwind, relax and hangout with a baby elephant”

“As a seasoned Thailand traveller, I was surprised as to how quiet and tranquil it was, of course the green season helped but we could just be at the beach and the hours drifted away ( as did all the stress ) by the time we finished our second cocktail. Great staff, helpful and polite, not overbearing ( like in some other resorts, spas). 3 pools to choose from ( one only for adults in case you want the quiet ) and a beach strip, we were spoiled for choice so tried everything! The Spa was great as well, individual bungalows so you have your privacy, ended up going there 2-3 times 🙂 ”

“This resort is beyond beautiful, and the perfect location to relax for our honeymoon. The resort is huge, and has three beautiful pools which we enjoyed all to ourselves as we stayed during low season (May 2014). The breakfast buffet was delicious, and the Italian restaurant we ate at for dinner was so good! Be sure the wear bug spray always! The staff at dinner was very nice to offer me some :)”
